Farther upstream, this Madu River forms a complicated network of mangrove swamps and a wide open lake dotted with islets. The landscape of Madu Ganga is Sri Lanka’s largest remaining mangrove swamp, home to several fish and reptile species. Once you hop on a boat, for almost 2 hours you will be immersed in surrounding nature, traversing through the water to visit two islets. Don’t forget to have enough time for a fish massage.

Surfing in Weligama
The outstanding destination for surfing lies in Weligama, on the Southern coast, with an international reputation amongst surf heads. Other leading surf spots include the southern coastal village of Midigama, Hikkaduwa and Arugam Bay. The surfing season runs from April to October at Arugam Bay, and from November to April at Weligama, Midigama and Hikkaduwa.
